Dolphin washes ashore at Roger Wheeler State Beach

NARRAGANSETT, R.I. -

 Lifeguards cleared the waters at Roger Wheeler State Beach in Narragansett when rumors of a shark sighting began earlier Sunday afternoon. It was later confirmed that a dolphin in distress that was seen, eventually making its way ashore. The Department of Environmental Management arrived at Roger Wheeler shortly after Sunday around 3:00 p.m. to help protect the area.

 An NBC 10 viewer sent in pictures of the stranded dolphin, showing it beginning to make its course to the shore.

 A spokesperson from DEM told NBC 10 that crews were on-scene and waiting for experts from Mystic Aquarium to arrive and help the dolphin make its way back into the waters.
