It’s the night the laughter died for comedians all around the world as news of Robin Williams death spread.

“I was just absolutely devastated. I almost thought you were kidding me at the beginning. I thought no way, not another one,” said Larry Greenbaum who runs Coconuts Comedy Club in Clearwater.

“He was just so manic and hilarious and obviously so much was ad lib which was amazing,” said Greenbaum who told News Channel 8 it was Williams’ stand- up act at a club in Toledo, Ohio 19 years ago that inspired Greenbaum to become a comic.

Bay Area comedian Mike Rivera had a similar experience in California.

“It was like oh my god, the big epiphany that’s what I want to do with my life. I want to be that stand-up comedian. I want to be able to go that fast,” said Rivera.

Rivera said he even had the chance to follow Williams at an open mic night while in college.

“How many people on this planet can say they followed Robin Williams,” said Rivera.

“All the comics today are so sad because a part of them, it’s like oh my god he’s gone. You’re never going to see him again and that is very sad,” said Rivera.
