Two female gray seals were released at the State Pier in Narragansett Thursday. Cassiopeia and Athena were released by staff of the Mystic Aquarium’s Animal Rescue Team.

Cassiopeia was rescued as a 5-month-old pup in March from the Cliff Walk in Newport and treated at Mystic Aquarium. Athena was rescued in March in Virginia and transferred to Mystic for rehabilitation.

The seal release generated a crowd who gathered to watch the seals return to the sea.
