Former town surveyor sentenced for corruption

Posted: Updated:

The former highway surveyor for the town of Westport was sentenced Friday on corruption charges.

Harold "Jack" Sisson was convicted on felony larceny charges for selling town equipment, like a riding mower, without first going through the proper bidding process.

Sisson was given two years' probation, not the two-year sentence with six months to serve that prosecutors sought.

Sisson was cited in a 2011 inspector general's report for having town workers remove boulders from a former selectman's private property.
