As American as the crack of the bat, fireworks are a Fourth of July tradition at McCoy Stadium in Pawtucket.

"Fans love it. We love it. The community loves it. Let's have a party," PawSox President Mike Tamburro said.

The PawSox put on displays Tuesday and Wednesday, and have one more to go.

The fireworks tradition at McCoy Stadium is made possible by Pyrotechnico of Pennsylvania. Workers were preparing a display of more than 500 fireworks to follow Thursday night's game.

They were also keeping a close eye on the weather.

"This is not a good thing with fireworks. Sometimes it slows it way down or sometimes it stops it from going completely," said Tom Speeney of Pyrotechnico.

The pyrotechnicians keep in close contact with weather watchers at the ballpark when certain weather events are happening. Speeney said it's all about keeping the shells dry and waiting for a window long enough to be able to put on the show.

"Sometimes you got to stop, get everything covered, wait for it to stop, and go back at it," Speeney said.

The people from Pyrotechnico have several decades of experience in dealing with all types of weather conditions. They said in addition to rain, wind and humidity play large factors in the flight of the fireworks.

Those are all things to be considered when preparing for a show.

Back on the field, the team is preparing to take on Rochester, and management is ready to carry on its Third of July tradition.

"What makes it special here is the music, you know, the patriotic music that's played and the fireworks going off. I tell you, if you don't walk out of here feeling proud of this country, then nothing's going to make you proud," Tamburro said.

The game starts at 6:15 p.m. If it keeps a normal pace, the fireworks should get under way at about 9:30 p.m.
