PROVIDENCE -

Rhode Island's attorney general has filed a lawsuit against the owner of the now-closed Gold's Gym in North Providence.

Attorney General Peter Kilmartin said Wednesday he filed the lawsuit in Providence County Superior Court against David Walker and Gable Fitness, Inc., which does business as Gold's Gym, for violating the state's Deceptive Trade Practices Act and Health Club Act.

Kilmartin's office says the Gold's Gym in North Providence closed in April and members were told to use the Gold's Gym in Warwick. His office received multiple complaints from members who said the gym charged maintenance fees to maintain a membership after Walker sold it in May and it began operating under the name Global Gym.

A message was left at a listing for Gable Fitness.
