Brockton man arrested after fleeing police and throwing firearm

BROCKTON, Mass. - Massachusetts State Police tell NBC 10 a 22-year-old Brockton man was arrested Friday afternoon after fleeing from police during a motor vehicle stop. According to police, around 4:00 p.m. on Friday, troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in Brockton. The driver failed to stop and started a brief motor vehicle chase.

Shortly after, the suspect, identified as Luis Garcia, 22 of Brockton, crashed the vehicle and fled the scene. Police chased after Garcia and observed Garcia throw an object during the foot pursuit. Police took Garcia into custody and located a handgun which Garcia had thrown during the chase.

Garcia now faces six charges including illegal possession of a firearm, possession of a large capacity feeding device, possession of ammunition, failure to stop for police, operating a vehicle with a revoked license and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.

Garcia was brought to Brockton Hospital for evaluation and discharged into police custody. He is currently being held pending bail or an appearance in Brockton District Court.
