State postpones hearing into possible lobbying violations against lawyer

PROVIDENCE -

The Rhode Island Secretary of State's office said Friday it has postponed a hearing date for a Providence lawyer in connection with potential lobbying violations regarding the state's deal with 38 Studios.

Michael Corso was scheduled to appear at a hearing on Tuesday.

On Friday, Corso's attorney asked for a continuance due to a scheduling conflict. The Secretary of State's office said the hearing date will be moved to a date after July 10.

Corso, a historic tax and film credit broker and friend to former House Speaker Gordon Fox, is accused of lobbying on behalf of 38 Studios without officially registering as a lobbyist.

Former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and others are also accused of improperly lobbying to bring 38 Studios to Rhode Island from Massachusetts.
