Car flies off causeway in Fairhaven

Posted: Updated:
FAIRHAVEN, Mass. -

According to a press release from the Fairhaven Police Department, officers responded to a three car accident on the West Island causeway just after noon on Sunday. The crash involved three vehicles and occurred between the causeway bridge and West Island, east of Sconticut Neck.

A witness reported seeing a vehicle suddenly accelerate and jump onto the causeway sidewalk. That vehicle proceeded around and past the vehicle in which the witness was traveling. It sideswiped a vehicle that was traveling in front of the witness, and rear ended another vehicle that was traveling in front of the vehicle that was sideswiped. The vehicle that was rear ended was pushed off the causeway, onto the rocks and partially onto the sands of the West Island shoreline.

A crane truck was called in to lift the vehicle that was pushed from the causeway. All three vehicles were traveling eastbound onto West Island when the crash occurred. The accident is still under investigation by the Fairhaven Police Department.
