Mansfield Police investigate possible explosive device

MANSFIELD, Mass. -

Mansfield Police Officers responded to 12 Bicentennial Court for a report of a suicidal male Saturday morning.

Officers arrived to the apartment and located the male subject in bed with obvious trauma. Officers worked with the Mansfield Fire Department to stabilize the subject who was combative, for transport to Sturdy Hospital in Attleboro.

While on scene, officers viewed several items which appeared to be consistent with homemade explosive devices both inside the apartment and in the rear yard. Out of an abundance of caution, the buildings involved were evacuated and Bomb Techs from the Massachusetts State Police as well as an EOD canine from the Metropolitan Law Enforcement Council were called to the scene.

Around 10 a.m. Massachusetts State Police Bomb Tech's determined the items were not actual explosive devices and the area was determined safe.

Mansfield Fire Department assisted with the decontamination of the exterior of the building before the property was released back to the residents and the Mansfield Housing Authority. The male subject was transported to Sturdy Hospital for treatment of his injuries and a Crisis Evaluation.
