Cranston spending $20 million to upgrade wastewater facilities

Posted: Updated:
CRANSTON, R.I. - Cranston officials have broken ground on a $20 million upgrade to the city's Water Pollution Control Facility on Pettaconsett Avenue.

The upgrade will bring the city into line with new standards set by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management.

City leaders say the project's original cost was $50 million, but is being done for $20 million, the result of negotiations.
