RI trooper to carry torch for Special Olympics USA Games

Rhode Island State Trooper Bret Wilks has been chosen as part of the Final Leg team of the Law Enforcement Torch Run for the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games.

The officers will serve as Guardians of the Flame for the Games, held June 14-21 in New Jersey.

As a member of the Final Leg team, Wilks and 51 other officers and select athletes will conduct extensive runs and ceremonies in cities and towns in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania.

The Final Leg team will deliver the Flame of Hope to the Opening Ceremony at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey.

Wilks has been involved with Special Olympics Rhode Island for four years. He participates in the annual torch run, and presents medals during the state Summer Games.
