PROVIDENCE -

Gov. Lincoln Chafee, Lt. Gov. Elizabeth Roberts and state National Guard Brig. Gen. Charles E. Petrarca Jr. marked the observance of Memorial Day by participating in an annual wreath-laying ceremony honoring war veterans from Rhode Island.

The event on Friday morning was held at the Garden of Heroes at the State House.

The garden is dedicated to Rhode Island service members who died supporting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. The ceremony included a silent tribute.
