PROVIDENCE -
The building at Empire Plaza is still vacant and dark since Curt Schilling's video game company 38 Studios closed two years ago.

City records list the owner as Empire LaSalle LLC and it's behind on its taxes.

The company missed a payment to the city of Providence on April 24 and, with interest, owes $113,265.

A payment was received in January, but city records also show the company bounced a tax check Nov. 5, 2013.

The empty building, the hit to the neighborhood and city are just more examples of collateral damage caused by the failure of 38 Studios.

The video game company brought enthusiasm and more than 150 employees to Providence's downtown in 2011, financed by a $75 million state-backed loan guarantee. That all ended in May 2012 when the company ran out of money, ceased all operations and laid off its staff. The building had undergone a $10 million renovation for 38 Studios.

In addition to the back taxes, the listed owner also had its business certificate revoked with the Rhode Island Secretary of State on May 14.

Records show the owner failed to file an annual report.

The owner's address is connected to Berkeley Investments Inc., a Boston-based company.

NBC 10 tried reaching Berkeley for a comment, but was unsuccessful.
