The son of a North Kingstown woman once accused of violating the state's social host law is charged with simple assault.

Jack Donegan, 18, appeared in Kent County District Court on Tuesday and was released on $1,000 personal recognizance. He has pre-trial hearing scheduled for June 3.

Donegan is accused of punching someone in the head and back repeatedly, causing a concussion.

Police said the assault happened on April 29, after Donegan accused the victim of stealing jewelry from his house.

According to police, the victim claims he and Donegan were drinking the house shortly before the assault happened.

According to police, after the assault, the victim received numerous text messages from Donegan asking him not to press charges and offered him $500.

Jayne Donegan's social host charge was dismissed, and made a $5,000 donation to the Amos House.
