PROVIDENCE -

Editor's note: A previous version of this story identified the victim as Shelina Bethea. Prosecutors say she used her maiden name, Moreino.

A man accused of killing his estranged wife in Central Falls was ordered held without bail Monday.

Robert Bethea, of West Warwick, was arraigned on charges of murder and violating a no-contact order. He's accused of killing 41-year-old Shelina Moreino early Sunday morning in her home on Valley Street, which was the suspect's former address.

Bethea wasn't supposed to be there. The victim had obtained a no-contact order against him.

Police said Bethea violated that order Sunday morning and that the suspect himself called 911.

"The Central Falls Police Department received a 911 call from a male caller who stated he had stabbed his wife. The address was 149 Valley St. on the second floor. At approximately 5:11 a.m., officers arrived on the scene and found a female lying on the kitchen floor with multiple stab wounds," prosecutor Amy Dodge said.

Bethea pleaded no contest in January to assaulting Moreino in November. During that assault, he was also charged with stopping Moreino from using a phone when he knew it was needed for an emergency call. He got a one-year suspended sentence and was ordered to have no contact with Moreino.

Those who knew Moreino described her as a kind woman and good mother who had an 8-year-old daughter.

Bethea is due back in court in two weeks.
