Report: Narcan assisting New Bedford first responders

Posted: Updated:
NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -

New Bedford first responders said their new anti-overdose kits are getting a lot of use.

Police and fire departments have been carrying the drug Narcan for just 11 days.

Since then The Standard-Times reports that the drug has reversed the effects of a heroin overdose in at least eight people.

The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said there have been 34 fatal overdoses since April 10.

All of the city's firefighters are trained to administer Narcan, and police officers will be full trained by June 1.
