McCowen loses latest bid for a new trial

Posted: Updated:
BARNSTABLE, Mass. - A convicted Cape Cod murderer has lost his latest bid for a new trial .

A Barnstable County judge  denied Christopher McCowen's third motion , in a decision that was handed down late last week.

In 2006, McCowen, a former trash hauler, was given a life sentence for the 2002 murder of fashion writer Christa Worthington.

The defense claimed the state's chief medical examiner at the time had forged paperwork,  which called  his credibility into question.

That motion was denied.

A separate motion for a new trial will be heard this summer.
