Former Alex and Ani CEO Giovanni Feroce has been appointed chairman of a group that advocates for people with rare diseases.

The Rare Disease United Foundation is based in Rumford. The foundation has chapters in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Pennsylvania.

"We are growing quickly and Mr. Feroce’s talent for channeling growth and his experience in government relations makes him the ideal Chair," executive director and founder Patricia Weltin said in a news release.

Feroce left Alex and Ani last month over what he called "disagreements" with the company's founder.
