Plainville man charged with breaking into liquor store

PLAINVILLE, Mass. -

A Plainville man faces charges after police said he tried to break into the South Liquor Mart on South Street on Sunday night.

Michael May, 28, was charged with breaking and entering with intent to commit a felony, possession of burglarious tools and malicious destruction of property over $250. He was held on $2,500 bail and was scheduled to be arraigned at Wrentham District Court on Tuesday.

Police said an officer was conducting a check of the building at about 10:15 p.m. when he saw May leaving the area, then getting on a bicycle.

Three other officers arrived at the scene to assist.

One of the officers checked out the building and found a door had been pried open. Nothing was taken from the store.

When the officers stopped May, they found a flashlight, pocketknife, pry bar and a screwdriver in his backpack.
