NORTH PROVIDENCE, R.I. -

A North Providence family is seeking help to raise money to purchase an accessible van for their son.

Ian Novacek is living with a form of dwarfism and cannot walk because of recent decompression surgery. He has to be carried everywhere and is getting too heavy for his parents.

"We have probably two years before we will see what his new normal will be, but it's just great to see him stand up and to see him walk," said Michael Novacek, Ian's father. "With all of the challenges this kid faces, I think if I were in his shoes, I would have thrown in the towel a long time ago. What you're looking at is probably one of the happiest human beings I've ever had the privilege to know."

To help Ian and his parents, a fundraiser will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on May 13 at East Coast Pizza in Johnston.

To make a donation, visit Ian's gofundme page.
