PROVIDENCE -

A Providence woman was critically injured in a shooting.

Police said 32-year-old Francisco Diaz shot Theodora Nunez, the mother of his estranged girlfriend.

Authorities said Diaz went to the Nunez home at 143 Oxford St. Wednesday night to talk to Jessica Nunez, who recently moved back in with her mother.

They said an argument ensued and that when Theodora Nunez came into the hallway to see what was happening, Diaz shot her in the back.

"The public should know that he is extremely dangerous and that if they see him, they should call local police right away," Maj. David Lapatin said.

Police said Diaz fled the scene in a blue Lexus RX-300 with Rhode Island registration 477-113.

Diaz also goes by the name Joel Marcano Torres.
