New Bedford police raid apartment, arrest 2

Two New Bedford residents were arraigned Wednesday on drug and gun charges.

Devon Cuba, 21, and Demitra Rae Pickering, 20, were arrested Tuesday night when drug enforcement agents with a search warrant raided their Hemlock Street apartment.

Police said detectives found about 20 grams of marijuana, $667, a semiautomatic Beretta handgun with the serial numbers defaced, and five rounds of ammunition.

Police said neither Cuba nor Pickering has a gun license.

Each was charged with possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, conspiracy to violate the controlled substance laws, unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of a firearm with obliterated serial numbers, and unlawful possession of ammunition.

Cuba and Pickering were held on $5,000 cash bail each. Both have court appearances next month.
