Coventry woman pleads not guilty in fatal crash

SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. -

A Coventry woman pleaded not guilty Monday in a drunken driving crash that killed a passenger in her car.

Amanda Lyons was arraigned in Washington County Superior Court on one count of driving under the influence death resulting, one count of driving to endanger death resulting, and three counts of possession of a controlled substance. Bail was set at $5,000 personal recognizance.

South Kingstown police said Amanda Lyons was drunk when she hit a utility pole on Route 1 in November.

Her passenger, John Balzano, 26, of Providence, was thrown from the car and killed.
