Bristol shellfishing areas are back open

Posted: Updated:
BRISTOL, R.I. - Waters that were closed to shellfishing last week were re-opened on Saturday.
The Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management lifted the ban for the waters of Bristol Harbor and Hog Island that were closed due to high flows and high fecal coliform levels.
Aquaculturists in the areas are allowed to resume operations.
The closure was the result of flooding of the Bristol Wastewater Treatment Plant after the large amount of rain from March 29th to March 31st.
The waters re-opened at Noon on Saturday, April 12th.
