FAIRHAVEN, Mass. - A New Bedford man faces assault charges after police said Tuesday he forced his way into a man's home and beat him with brass knuckles.

Rene Cambra, 35, was charged with home invasion, assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon, two counts of intimidation of a witness and threatening to commit murder.

Police said they received a report of an assault at a home on Laurel Street in Fairhaven at about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

Police said they found a man who said he had been struck in the head with brass knuckles by Cambra.

According to police, the victim told police Cambra began kicking and pounding on his door. He said Cambra forced his way in and punched him in the head. He said Cambra began kicking him and told him if he notified the police he would kill him.
