A champion chess player who is accused of solicitation and sexual assault of a girl has resigned his leadership of a local chess academy.
Police said David Harris, 60, of Providence, contacted a 14-year-old girl online and initiated a sexual relationship.
The Providence Journal reported that Chess Master Connections LLC accepted Harris's resignation on Tuesday, before learning about the charges against him.
Harris also works with a number of local school chess clubs.
Harris was released on bail. He is not allowed to have contact with minors or use the Internet.
