Nor'easter possible midweek

With the cold air rushing into place today through Tuesday, we are setting the stage for snow.

We certainly have the potential for an early Spring snowstorm midweek.

An area of low pressure is expected to emerge along the mid-Atlantic coast region on Tuesday.

Light snow could develop in southern New England Tuesday afternoon/ evening.

This brings us to Tuesday night where the low will interact with the jet stream.

From here, it will rapidly develop and intensify into a very strong coastal storm.

All models are agreeing that this intense storm will indeed develop – it will happen.

The question is where will it go from there? We do know the resulting nor’easter will be very strong and will include elements of heavy snow and extremely gusty winds.

Blizzard conditions – visibilities of ¼ mile or less for 3 hours or more with frequent gusts or sustained winds of 35 mph or greater– will likely be met on the Cape and Islands as of now.

The Cape will likely see coastal flooding as well.

Model estimates of the storm are mainly holding the most impact on the Cape and islands with the heavy snow and winds.

On that note; early Spring snowstorms are not uncommon and I do not feel we’re dealing with a blockbuster storm like the storm of April 1, 1997.

The April Fools Day blizzard of 1997 saw 30” north and west of Providence with 20” in the city!

Here’s where Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts could see the worst of the storm: If the track shifts a mere 100 miles, it could back the heaviest snow into Rhode Island and Bristol County, Massachusetts. Storm Team 10 will be tracking the storm closely.
