CRANSTON, R.I. -

At 2 a.m. Friday, Robert Cicerone arrived at the Miss Cranston Diner on Oaklawn Avenue in Cranston to find it engulfed in flames.

Cicerone owns the building and the bakery next door.

"I jumped out of bed, my heart going a million miles a minute, saw the road blocked off. It was a really frightening situation," he said.

Deputy Fire Chief Paul Valletta of the Cranston Fire Department said it took about two hours to get the fire under control.

Investigators tore apart what was left of the diner trying to determine the cause of the fire. Fire officials said they don't consider the fire suspicious.

The diner has been a part of the Cranston community for more than 60 years, and the owners are determined to rebuild as quickly as possible.

"It's like another icon. We don't want it to go away," Cicerone said.

"There's a lot of people who come here on a daily basis for breakfast and they want to get back to that because that's what the family's desire is," said Kevin Morris, owner's friend.
