Police: Drug bust nets $250K worth of pot

COVENTRY, R.I. -

Authorities have arrested and charged five people following a weeks-long drug investigation.

Police received information that two large marijuana distribution centers were located at a building at the back of the Hope Mill Complex in Scituate and a residence in Coventry.

Police obtained search warrants for both locations and seized a combined 89 marijuana plants and 17.5 pounds of marijuana with a street value of $250,000.

Desmond Ferreira, 37 of Coventry, Joshua Smith, 28 of Exeter, Shane Fisher, 28 of Warwick, and David Leroux, 51 of Coventry were arraigned Thursday in Kent County District Court and were charged with manufacturing and possession with intent to deliver and controlled substance conspiracy.

Ferreira, Smith and Fisher were all released on bail. Leroux was held without bail on a previous charge.

A fifth suspect is awaiting arraignment.
