PROVIDENCE -

A Lincoln Middle School history teacher accused of drunken driving had her driver's license suspended Monday.

A pretrial hearing at the Rhode Island Traffic Tribunal for 51-year-old Christine Clarke was postponed, but a judge suspended Clarke's license.

Clarke was charged on Feb. 11 with driving under the influence, refusal to submit to a chemical test and refusal to submit to a chemical breath test.

Police said Clarke struck a mailbox on her way home from school.

Police said they found two empty bottles of vodka in the front seat of the car and a coffee cup with a lid on it with an unknown substance that smelled of alcohol.

Superintendent of Schools Georgia Fortunato told NBC 10 on Feb. 12 that the incident was a personnel matter and couldn't comment further.
