ATTLEBORO, Mass. -

An Attleboro man is accused of breaking his infant son's leg.

Ryan Ellis was arraigned Tuesday in Attleboro District Court on one count of assault and battery on a child under 14. A judge set bail at $50,000 cash and forbid Ellis or the mother from seeing their son.

Police said Ellis, 22, made a 911 call Sunday to report his infant son had a broken leg.

Further investigation showed the child hadn't been treated for previous injuries, including a broken rib, two brain bleeds and bruising to his face.

"I am very shocked. There was a call once before about a month ago, but for someone yelling at the baby," said Susan Beland, Ellis's landlord.

Beland described what she heard from the apartment below.

"We just heard some loud crashes from upstairs. Sounded like something heavy was being dropped or slammed down," Beland said.

The boy is recovering at Hasbro Children's Hospital in Providence. He is in state custody.
