Posted: Updated:

One person was seriously injured in a wrong-way crash on Interstate 195 very early Friday morning.

Massachusetts State Police said a driver going west in the eastbound lane at about 12:30 a.m. first caused a crash on the Braga Bridge, then a second, more serious accident in at exit 4 in Somerset.

One person was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with serious injuries and two others to Charlton with non life-threatening injuries.

A 21-year-old man from New Bedford was seriously injured in that second crash. The unidentified man was a passenger in the Somerset crash.

The alleged wrong-way driver, Raymond Potvin, 79, of Fall River, is facing numerous charges including drunken driving.

State police said a trooper actually saw the vehicle going the wrong way and tried to warn the driver with his lights, but the car swerved around him and continued on.
