Dirty Dozen Tax Scams of 2014

Posted: Updated:

The IRS has released its annual list of the "Dirty Dozen" tax scams.

Identity theft leads the list, with thieves trying to steal your refund along with your identity.

Then there are phone scams where crooks call pretending to be with the IRS.

Phishing, or fake emails, from someone claiming to be with the agency ranks as #3.

Fourth on the list, bogus promises of free money from inflated refunds.

You might also see flyers, ads, even storefront signs which claim to be preparers. But they aren't.

Most of the rest of the scams involve stiffing the IRS.
