NORTH SMITHFIELD, R.I. -

A North Smithfield town worker was charged with stealing a pair of snow skis, police said Monday.

Police said 45-year-old Robert Taylor, who works for the Department of Public Works, stole the skis from the back of a pickup truck which was parked at Slatersville Plaza on Feb. 8.

Police said the skis are worth $1,200. Police said Taylor later sold the skis to a co-worker for $300.

About a week later, police said the owner of the stolen skis identified the skis at a local shop.

According to police, the co-worker brought them into the shop for reconditioning where they were identified.

It wasn't immediately known whether Taylor is still employed with the town.
