Pawtucket need volunteer snow helpers for seniors

Posted: Updated:
PAWTUCKET, R.I. -

Pawtucket officials are asking more youths to volunteer to shovel out seniors during this stormy winter.

Mayor Donald Grebien says the volunteers serve seniors at no costs. He says the need for their service is at its greatest level this season when compared to the three years that the Youth Senior Assistance Program has been in existence.

Beth Roberge is a liaison for seniors who also volunteers to shovel snow. She says that she has been able to find school-age youths to shovel snow for 66 seniors so far this year. She describes it as the greatest number of seniors they've helped shovel sidewalks and a path to the mailbox.

Roberge says she currently has 25 seniors on her list waiting for volunteers.
