PROVIDENCE -

A man who was shot by a Providence police officer responding to a domestic disturbance faces charges.

Dari Garcia, 23, of Providence, was arraigned Thursday at Rhode Island Hospital as a Superior Court violator. He was held without bail pending a future hearing. Garcia’s currently in the custody of Rhode Island Sheriffs.

Garcia was on parole for a previous drug charge in January 2012.

Police said Garcia will be charged with simple assault, malicious mischief, disorderly conduct and possession of heroin. Police said more charges could be filed.

Ryan Maroney shot Garcia at a home in the city’s Silver Lake section on Monday night. Garcia suffered a non-life threatening injury.

Police did not disclose details of the incident, including where in the body Garcia was shot. An investigation by Providence police, state police and the attorney general’s office is ongoing, which is routine procedure for all shootings involving police officers.

Maroney, a nine-year veteran of the police force, was placed on paid administrative leave.
