CRANSTON, R.I. -

A Florida man was charged in Cranston on Wednesday with first-degree murder in the killing of a man in 2012.

Carlos Manuel Reyes-Sanchez, 30, of Sarasota Fla. was arrested Thursday on an arrest warrant at the Resort at Longboat Key Club. Police said Reyes-Sanchez was in the gym performing his duties as a fitness trainer at the club when he was taken into custody.

"I can't underscore how hard these folks worked on this. This was a very protracted case from the time it came in and trying to identify all the players involved, all the different locations they lived. This case took us from jurisdiction to jurisdiction, all over the country, different police departments, trying to identify potential suspects," said Maj. Robert Ryan of the Cranston Police Department.

Reyes-Sanchez is charged in connection with the murder of 49-year-old Victor Baez.

Police said Reyes-Sanchez had a fight with Baez had a Providence club and then later at an after-hours party.

Baez was found lying on Third Street on Jan. 30, 2012. Police said Reyes-Sanchez and some associates assaulted Baez, pushed him to the ground and then ran over him, leaving him for dead.

Baez did not die instantly but instead remained hospitalized in critical condition until he succumbed to his injuries and died in May of 2012. Autopsy reports indicate that Baez died from blunt force trauma.

Police also said Wednesday they are looking for a second suspect in the case.
