A North Scituate man was arrested and charged with online fraud, the Rhode Island State Police said Thursday.
George Demedeiros was charged with obtaining money under false pretenses and arraigned in District Court. He was released on $10,000 personal recognizance and is scheduled to be back in court in April.
Police said two people reported they'd paid in excess of $400 for PlayStation 4 video game consoles on the auction website ebid.net. They sent the money after winning the auction, but never received their game consoles.
After an investigation, police discovered 29 instances of people paying for PlayStation consoles, without receiving them.
The transactions were made using the financial service PayPal.
Police traced the transactions to Demedeiros, and found he'd collected more than $12,000.
