Rhode Island lawmakers are moving quickly on legislation designed to encourage out-of-court settlements in the litigation over the collapse of Curt Schilling's video game company.

The Senate plans to vote on the bill Thursday. It will be one of the most significant votes so far this legislative session.

A House committee reviewed the legislation Tuesday but did not vote.

The bill aims to shield any party that settles with the state from a lawsuit filed by a co-defendant over damages for which a co-defendant is found liable.

The former Economic Development Corp. sued the former Red Sox pitcher and 13 others after 38 Studios went bankrupt. It approved a $75 million loan guarantee for the company.

The agency's lawyer says the bill would help maximize any potential financial recovery.
