Exeter family searches for missing dog

Posted: Updated:
EXETER, R.I. -

The dog went missing exactly two weeks ago today, and now pet psychics, bloodhounds, and social media users are coming together to help locate him.

Oisin is an English yellow lab that turns 7 months old today, and he's been a member of the Burke family in Exeter for most of its young life.

Kathleen Burke spoke to NBC 10 about Oisin, "he's been a great dog, yes. I've been with him all the time, training him every day, walking with him every day."

And he's calm as can be; this is especially important for the family because it makes a perfect companion for their daughter Selina who is on oxygen 75 percent of the time; according to Selina "Oishin was very mellow. Although he was extremely affectionate too and loving and he was just a good friend."

So the Burkes are pulling out all the stops to try to find Oisin. They've put posters up all over town, started a Facebook page that has been shared over 20,000 times, they've consulted a pet psychic, and they have welcomed the help of Abby and Ziva, two bloodhounds from Jamestown brought to the family by Bill and Luann Botelho to try to follow Oisin's scent in the family's back yard, which is he place from where he disappeared two weeks ago after going out with the family's yorkie, Buddha.

The bloodhounds followed Oisin's scent around the backyard to a covered wood pile, then followed the scent out to the edge of the front yard by the street where it was lost, leading the family to think that someone may have picked it up thinking it was a stray.

Wherever Oisin has been is not important to the Burkes who just want to have their furry family member back home,"we're appealing to your viewers and animal lovers out there to kindly bring the dog into an animal shelter or veterinary hospital. We've made arrangements with all of the hospitals to accept the dog and your identity will remain confidential."

The family has put up $500 in reward money that has been matched by a generous citizen to bring the total reward for the safe return of the dog to $1,000.
