New Bedford officer shot is released from hospital

NEW BEDFORD, Mass. -

The New Bedford police officer that was shot on duty is home recovering after he was released from the hospital on Saturday. 

The officer was shot, while trying to execute a search warrant at an apartment on Davis St. Friday night.  He was brought to St. Luke's Hospital, before being transferred to Rhode Island Hospital with non- life threatening and he is expected to make a full recovery.

Police say members of the Organized Crime and Intelligence Bureau attempted to open a door at 244 Davis St., the officers were fired upon. One of them was hit by gunfire.

After a short standoff, the people inside the apartment agreed to open the door.

Two people have been arrested.

Nathan Manuel-Jackson, 20, of New Bedford, was charged with armed assault with intent to murder, and four firearms related charges.

Thomas Scott, 34, of Matawan was charged as an accessory and three firearms charged.

Three other occupants were served with Grand Jury subpoenas, and may face charges in the future.
