Tech This Out: Roadside Assistance Apps

Posted: Updated:

Driving in winter weather conditions is tough enough and if an emergency arises, you want to be prepared. You’ll want some help if you get stuck on the side of the road, so check out these apps.

The AAA app is free for members and non-members.

Through the app you can get maps and find out where the nearest hotels, restaurants, gas stations and even where the nearest attractions are located. There's a navigation features too. Just pop in where you want to go and grab directions or turn on the co-pilot.

If you break down you can put in a request and ask for roadside assistance with a digital request or make a phone call through the app. There's also a mobile battery service and there are member discounts.

Tow Truck Finder is for Apple devices. I haven't tested this one but the app claims it will find your location quickly and will display a Google Map with service stations that have tow trucks. You can find addresses and phone numbers of companies that can help you out in a bind. Tow Truck Finer costs .99 cents.

Check out your insurance carrier too. Many carriers such as Geico, State Farm, Progressive and Nationwide have apps for both Android and Apple phones that can help when you're stuck or in an accident. Insurance apps are usually free.
