RIPTA winter service changes in effect

Posted: Updated:

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - The Rhode Island Public Transit Authority's winter service changes have gone into effect.

The changes affecting more than two dozen public bus and trolley routes throughout the state are effective as of Saturday. The agency makes seasonal adjustments three times a year based in part on passenger use.

The changes include improved frequency on key corridor routes, including Routes 17, 19 and 20. There will be direct service from Providence to Woonsocket on Route 54.

Route 79 on Columbus Avenue has been discontinued.

The changes are part of the second phase of a comprehensive RIPTA analysis of demand for transit service throughout the state.
