Posted: Updated:

It was a busy night in Fall River Thursday. First police were called to the 200 block of Haffards Street at about 10:30 p.m. Police are investigating a stabbing in the area. Witnesses say the altercation started at a nearby bar. One person was taken to Rhode Island Hospital from the scene. There is no word on the extent of their injuries.

Then just after midnight police were called to a report of a shooting on the 700 block of Plymouth Avenue. Rescue crews were on the scene helping a male victim who appeared to have been shot in the leg.

And finally the Red Cross is helping 6 adults who were displaced by an overnight fire in Fall River. Just before 1 a.m. Friday fire tore through a three-story building on the 600 block of South Main Street.

Some of the firefighters reportedly had difficulty breathing and had to stop work. There was extensive damage to the third floor and the attic.

Firefighters had to open the roof and take out some of the windows on the second and third floor to fight the flames. There are no injuries reported. And the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
