Man accused of cooking meth in hotel room

NEWPORT, R.I. -

A Rhode Island man is in federal custody after authorities say they dismantled a methamphetamine lab in a room at a Newport inn.

U.S. Attorney Peter Neronha said Sean Costigan was ordered detained Friday on federal drug trafficking charges.

Authorities said Costigan sold meth to undercover officers at least four times last year. Police and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration searched a room Thursday at the Harbor Base Pineapple Inn that was allegedly rented to Costigan. Inside they found items used to make methamphetamine.

Costigan, 51, of Pawtucket, had an initial appearance in federal court on Friday. It was unclear if he is being represented by an attorney.
