An Amber Alert for a 6-year-old Woonsocket boy was canceled Thursday night after he was found unharmed in Washington state with his noncustodial mother, who is accused of taking him from Rhode Island more than a week ago.

Rhode Island State Police said Daniel Britt and Andria Britt were located in Island County, north of Seattle. Police said the FBI negotiated Andria Britt's voluntary surrender with the help of her family.

Daniel Britt was in state care pending release to his father. Police said he appeared to be in good health.

"I'm relieved my son is safe. I was ecstatic," Sean Britt said Thursday night at a briefing at the Woonsocket police station. "I can't stop smiling."

Sean Britt said he had not yet talked to Daniel, but he said they will go toy shopping when he gets home. Daniel turns 7 next week.

Andria Britt is being held in the Island County jail. She has been charged with being a fugitive from justice and child snatching.

Investigators said Daniel and Andria Britt were in Washington state, where the woman has relatives, for about four or five days after stopping in Tennessee. Andria's father and brother reportedly drove to Washington with her but it is not known whether they knew the circumstances surrounding the case.

Daniel Britt was reported missing Jan. 8 by his father, when Andria Britt skipped a court appearance and failed to return the boy, which violated their shared custody. A court granted Sean Britt sole custody.

Rhode Island State Police activated an Amber Alert on Wednesday when examination of medical records determined the boy could be in danger.
