TAUNTON, Mass. -

A Massachusetts man was ordered held without bail after being charged for the eighth time with drunken driving.

David Frates, 46, appeared in Taunton District Court on Wednesday and was charged with operating under the influence of alcohol.

A state prosecutor said Frates was belligerent at the time of his arrest, had at least two alcoholic drinks open in the car at the time of his arrest and could barely speak.

"He also had an open container of brandy and a mixed drink in his hand," said Massachusetts state prosecutor Jeff Dailey.

Frates lost his license after his seventh drunken driving conviction, and served two-and-a-half years in prison.

Police said Frates is a danger to the public and will appear in court on Jan. 22 for a dangerousness hearing.
