PROVIDENCE -

A Providence man pleaded no contest Tuesday to second-degree murder in the killing of a woman whose body was found by her sons.

Douglas White was sentenced to serve 35 years on the murder charge and 10 years, to run concurrent, on a larceny charge.

Prosecutors said White physically assaulted Donna Oliver at her home at 25 Grape St. in Providence in April 2012 and that she died as a result of her injuries.  Oliver's adult sons found her body in a closet on the day before Mother's Day.

White, 35, was also accused of stealing Oliver's 42-inch flat screen television after killing her.

Family members have told NBC 10 that Oliver was helping White because he was down on his luck and living out of his car near her home.
