Attorney General warning on E-mail scams

Posted: Updated:

Rhode Island's Attorney General is warning you about a scam.

Fake emails are being sent to people with the subject line "Notice of Appearance in Court."

The email contains a specific court date. It tells the receiver to  bring a document for identification.

The emails also contain the name of a legitimate law firm. And there's a document that looks like a court notice.

It's an attachment and we're told it could link to a virus.

If you have received one of these emails and are unsure if it's real or not, you should contact the clerk's office for that court.
